Caterpillar 2019 [The life of small things]

I always thought that the lives of small or weak things and big or strong things were different. And the idea of looking into that small life was the beginning of a book about the story of a caterpillar.

Caterpillar (The life of small things) is a visual graphic storytelling book that covers the birth, life and death of a small caterpillar. It is intended to convey a glimpse of the stories in symbolic graphics rather than the exact content of a long description reading. I believe that the stories will be interpreted in a variety of ways due to the phenomenological experience of each person viewing the book.

* This book focuses on the 'processĀ of life' rather than the ending of the determined caterpillar'sĀ death.

Caterpillar, is the 'symbol of small things'. Caterpillar is originally a small life born to live a small life. Perhaps ā€˜smallness' means weakness, and the caterpillar that are born to be weak and live in their own ways of life are also can be seen as the ā€œsymbol of weak beingsā€.

The nature surrounding the caterpillar was expressed as a warm presence so as not to think that the idea of 'the life of weak things would be sad'. Nature, equal to everyone, gave theĀ caterpillar the sun, water, wind and green forests to make their lives varied and warm. I wanted their life to be happy.

Bird, the natural enemy ofĀ caterpillar is the 'symbol of the enemy of reality'. A predator like a tiger is not so dangerous to aĀ caterpillar. But Bird, not so strong, is the most fearful being under the rule of the nature enemy. I thought it was 'the enemy around' and 'the enemy of realityā€™.

In fact, there are a lot of stories that I wanted to say through caterpillar and bird. That is why phenomenological experience is necessary. Do I maybe look as weak presence as a caterpillar to someone? Perhaps have I harmed anyone unintentionally by becoming the enemy of realty like the birdā€¦?
Since this book focuses on the 'process' of 'life' rather than the ending of the larval death, I conducted an archive focusing on 'the process of making a book' rather than the result of a book. The subject of the book and the method of the archive have a consistency that "emphasizes the process rather than the result".

* Phenomenological experience: Experience through things that are perceived by my thinking (subjective awareness, perception of things through experience)
